ABOUT
We’re back!!! After a hugely successful film festival last summer, the Bicheno Oz Filmfest will present a new program of fabulous Oz and Kiwi films. Festival Director Sue Maslin is joined by members of the Bicheno Film Society in shaping the 2026 line up which will include comedies, family films, documentaries, thrillers and dramas - something for everyone!
The festival will kick off opening night on Friday 6 February with Tinā, the tiny film with a big heart that became a smash hit in New Zealand this year.
And on the opening weekend we will delight families with the Australian comedy hit, Kangaroo, in a special fund-raising screening with proceeds going to Pademelon Park Wildlife Refuge.
For grown up audiences we present Spit, an outrageous comedy starring David Wenham going the full bogan; and the powerful drama, The Correspondent, based on a true story Of David Greste, an Australian foreign correspondent jailed in Cairo in 2013 facing a seven-year sentence.
The festival shifts gear in the second weekend with The Surfer starring Nicholas Cage – a must see for local surfers; an extraordinary documentary about legendary actor David Gulpilil and his final Journey Home; Bruce Beresford’s latest drama, The Travellers starring Bryan Brown and finishing up on Sunday afternoon with a FREE screening of Ocean with David Attenborough, a breath-taking journey undersea. An In Conversation with the audience will follow the screening featuring UTS marine biologists Dr. Scott Bennett and Dr. Julia Santana Garcon.
Sue Maslin is delighted to present the Closing Night film, Jimpa starring Olivia Colman which she Executive Produced. Filmed in Adelaide and Amsterdam and directed by Sophie Hyde, the film is a nuanced and moving portrait of three generations in a queer family.
The 2026 Bicheno Oz Film Festival is presented with the generous support of major sponsors; Tas Events, Cheryl Power, Arabella Edge and Nick Gaze.
